Jeffrey Weigand is fired from the position of vice president of the largest tobacco company because he protests against the use of a component in tobacco products that causes drug addiction in smokers. Lovell Bergman, the producer of a popular TV show, finds out about this and convinces Weigend to give an incriminating interview on television. The pillars of the tobacco industry, who assure the harmlessness of the manufactured products, do not like this very much. The oligarchs take the strictest measures so that information does not become the property of the public. Wiegand's wife leaves, Lovell Bergman is sent on vacation. Where big money is involved, it's futile to fight for justice, but Bergman and Weigand don't stop fighting.
