Chicago police detective Dan Lawson is informed of a serial killer who has appeared in Scotland. His handwriting is identical to that of the killer who was never caught in Chicago. Nine years ago, he murdered five women, one of whom was the detective's girlfriend. Now Lawson travels to Scotland, where he will work with local detective Glenn Boyd to find a possible connection between all the crimes. A turning point in the investigation comes when Walker, Lawson's former partner, appears. He has new evidence that will change the course of the search.
