The world-renowned conductor and composer Lydia Tarr becomes the first female conductor of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. She gives interviews, publishes books, teaches, and in her new position starts rehearsing Mahler's symphony No. 5, and also takes care of her partner, the orchestra's first violin, and her little daughter. But when one of her former charges commits suicide, Lydia's impeccable reputation is threatened.
