1990 year. Young composer John works as a waiter in a New York nightclub. At the same time, he is writing the musical "Superbia", which, as John expects, will become a new hit on Broadway in the future and will allow him to escape from poverty. Everything is not easy in John's life. His girlfriend Susan is tired of waiting for her boyfriend to succeed, and his best friend left his dreams and got a prestigious job in an advertising agency.
