The Good Lord Bird

Onion's father dies as a result of a clash between a slave owner and passionate abolitionist John Brown. Mistaking Onion for a girl, Brown enlists him in his anti-slavery army, which consists mainly of his sons. In 1859, in an attempt to start a slave rebellion, they raid an army depot at Harpers Ferry. The rebellion does not happen, but their actions eventually lead to the American Civil War.
