In October 1990, Kern County Sheriff's Deputy Joe "Dick" Deacon is sent to Los Angeles for a seemingly simple task of gathering evidence. Instead, he is drawn into the hunt for a serial killer terrorizing the city. Sergeant Jim Baxter is leading the investigation. Impressed by Dick's police instincts, he informally asks him for help. However, as they track down the killer, Baxter has no idea that the investigation will touch on disturbing secrets from Dick's past that could jeopardize more than just the case…
