The Birdcatcher
The Birdcatcher
The film takes place in the cozy town of Trondheim in 1942. Despite the fact that the occupation of Norway has been going on for two years, the daily life of the inhabitants of the fjord country seems quite peaceful. The main character's name is Esther. She lives with her parents in a cozy house. Her father, Hans, works as a hairdresser, whose business is successful thanks to a regular clientele. Esther herself passionately dreams of the theater stage: she diligently studies monologues from famous plays and can spend hours looking at magazines with popular American actresses. However, the danger is quietly approaching the civilians of the town: the Nazis begin to deal with the local Jews. Soon, Esther's father is taken away. The girl's attempt to escape turns out to be a failure, and she ends up in the forest. To save herself, Esther disguises herself as a boy and hides in a small farm.
