Michel is a young criminal who imitates the cynical habits of Humphrey Bogart's screen heroes. Fleeing from pursuit in a stolen car, Michelle shoots and kills a policeman. With no money in his pocket, pursued by the police, he returns to his American girlfriend Patricia, a journalism student. Although Patricia constantly doubts the rightness of her actions, she cannot overcome her attraction to the boy. They start spending time together, having sex, hiding from the police and stealing cars to earn money to escape to Italy.
