Kurt Barnert had a very difficult childhood. Right in front of his eyes, his own aunt went crazy. But the boy went through these dark times, grew up and was able to keep his talent for drawing. The film premiered on September 4, 2018 at the Venice Film Festival, Italy. Film critics from the Metacritic website gave the film a rating of 68/100, and on Rotten tomatoes you can find 78% positive reviews (101/130). In 2019, the film was nominated for an Oscar for Best Cinematography and Best Foreign Language Film.
