A look at various New Yorkers and their journey between personal relationships and unexpected adversity during one day in early autumn. Benny, a record collector, has to go check out a signal about a rare edition of Charlie Parker; while his neighbor Ray doesn't leave his couch, fearing people who might have a grudge against him. Claire gets a job as a crime reporter and goes with her boss on her first assignment, an investigation into a possible murder involving the owner of a watch workshop. And schoolgirl Wendy goes home to her friend Melanie, where she suddenly discovers that she has become the third extra.
