Twelve-year-old Tui Mitcham, five months pregnant, steps into the icy waters of the lake... and then disappears. The case is assigned to detective Robin Griffin, who has returned to her hometown. And this is not a simple missing persons case. An Evil as old as the Earth itself reigns in this picturesque but remote town. Those who come there in search of Paradise find themselves on the road to Hell, not finding happiness in the paradisiacal landscapes of New Zealand, where it is difficult to make a living with honest work.
