Our souls are very close. Sometimes it is simply impossible to believe. Something incredible happened to a guy from Tokyo, Taki, and a girl from Mitsuha province, who only dreams of the capital. While these 2 completely unknown teenagers slept, their souls switched places - Taki in the body of a girl, and Mitsuha in the body of a boy. They have never met before, but they are getting closer and closer by the minute. This happened more than once completely by accident. Strangers began to find ways to communicate with each other - messages, notes, some traces. Eventually, they realize that they want to meet in real life, to really get to know each other.
