Renoir: Revered and Reviled

Pierre-Auguste Renoir is known and loved primarily for his impressionist canvases depicting Paris. These paintings are included in the world treasury of painting - however, the artist himself quickly got tired of this style and changed course. Based on the amazing collection of Renoir's late works in the collection of the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia, where about 200 of his paintings are stored, this film examines this very late direction of the artist's work, which still evokes polar reactions - some are seduced by his works, others are repulsed. It is worth noting that among the artists who glorified the late Renoir and called his work of that period as the one that had a personal impact on them, there are two real giants of painting of the 20th century - Picasso and Matisse. The film retells the unknown biography of the great artist, and at the same time explores his little-studied role in the connection between the old and new times.
