London, 1763. Every fifth woman earns a living by selling herself. Girls have only two ways to prosperity - to marry the rich or become a prostitute. City brothels are run by cunning and tough ladies like Margaret Wells or Mrs. Quigley. However, religious figures demand the closing of public houses, and constables are always ready to make brutal raids on such an establishment.
