Ukrainian New Wave is a traditional project of the Dovzhenko Center, which for the fifth time presents the best short works of young Ukrainian directors that have been selected and have been awarded at national and international film festivals. This is one of the few opportunities for debutant directors to present their films to the general public in a cinema network. This year, the film almanac included 6 films: "Golden Lava" (dir. Pavlo Ostrikov) - a new word in Ukrainian comedy, or the Ukrainian version of Aki Kaurismyaki; "Home" (dir. Iryna Tsylyk) - an atmospheric story of loyalty played out in antique settings; "Lost" (dir. Svitlana Shymko) is a poetic study about the life of our lost things. "Krov'yanka" (dir. Arkady Nepytalyuk) is an anecdotal variation on the theme of "parents and children", or a short course on Ukrainian stereotypes. "Rabies" (dir. Marysya Nikityuk) is an outrageous drama about the short distance between love and cruelty. "Chornogora" (dir. Taras Dron) is a child's view of adult relationships, shown against the background of wise Carpathian landscapes.
