With a brand new iPhone, an apartment in an upscale neighborhood and a nice bank account inherited from her late husband, Marnie Minervini is happy to move from New Jersey to Los Angeles - closer to her daughter Laurie, a successful (and still lonely) screenwriter, to drown her in the arms of a mother's love. However, dozens of text messages, unexpected visits and conversations overflowing with nagging advice force Lori to draw a clear line between her and her mother. Hence, Marnie finds new outlets for her endless optimism and obsessive generosity to change the destinies of her neighbors and her own and ultimately find a new calling in life.
