The great power of opera: thanks to this gentle work of the Czech romantic Dvořák, the whole world knows the magical fairy tale of the Eastern Slavs - it sheds tears over the unhappy love of Water's daughter for the frivolous Prince and knows who Baba Yaga is (here this old sorceress, Jezhibaba in Czech, helps the Mermaid find a human soul in exchange for her voice). The premiere production is prepared by the classic American opera director Mary Zimmerman. The mermaid will be the amazing Latvian singer Kristina Opolais, a true international diva, for whom the role of a fairy-tale temptress has become almost a calling card.
