Asuna is a schoolgirl who lost her father very early and now lives with her mother. She lives mostly alone, as her mother is on night duty at the hospital. She is smart and studies well, but she has almost no friends. She spends her evenings on the hillside, listening to a homemade radio with a crystal, which she received in memory of her father. Once, when she was crossing a river on a railway bridge, she was attacked by a huge creature, from which a young man named Shun saves her. A few days later, Asuna learns that he died. She misses him and looks at him. The last hope is given to her by a school teacher who tells an ancient legend about the city of the ancients, in the center of which are the gates of life and death...
