The case takes place in 1973. Sniper Quarry returns from his third military tour to Vietnam and finds that people do not see him as a hero, rather demonizing the image of the American soldier, and old friends have turned their backs on him. Out of frustration, he joins an extensive network of hired killers and corrupt operatives throughout Mississippi.
