The Land of the Enlightened
The Land of the Enlightened
A gang of Afghan teenagers from the Kuchi tribe have dug up old Soviet mines and are selling explosives to children working in a lapis lazuli mine. When they're not dreaming of American troops finally leaving their lands, another gang of kids controls caravans smuggling blue gems through the arid mountains of the Pamirs. This harmonious combination of artistic and documentary forms leads us on an impressive cinematic path to the beauty of post-war Afghanistan.
