Легіон. Хроніка Української Галицької Армії 1918-1919
Documentary and feature film by Ukrainian director Taras Khymych. This is the first documentary film in Ukraine using the most modern technologies in 4K format. Veterans of the anti-terrorist operation, military and reconstruction clubs joined the work on the film. ATO veteran Volodymyr Pravosudov, as well as the Military Historical Club "Insurgent" of Kyiv, helped with the production of military scenes. The initiator of the creation of the film is the public organization "Ukrainian Galician Assembly", within the framework of the documentary.org.ua project. The process of creating the film lasted 15 months. The First World War was ending. The imminent collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire deepened the crisis in Europe. Poles, Ukrainians, Czechs, Hungarians and southern Slavs were preparing to declare their states' independence. On the night of November 1, 1918, Ukrainian soldiers from the ranks of the volunteer Legion of Sich Riflemen rose up in Lviv and proclaimed the creation of an independent state on Ukrainian ethnic lands. Sich riflemen became the driving force of the young Ukrainian state and the nucleus of its regular army. At the same time, the revived Poland put forward claims to Galicia. Central and Eastern Europe plunged into the era of "small wars" for new borders in the post-war world. However, the Bolshevik threat loomed from the east. The countries of the West decided to build a "sanitary border" in Eastern Europe... The storyline was created from the memories of eyewitnesses.
