The eleventh year
The eleventh year
"Eleventh" is a documentary edited from Soviet newsreels of the 1920s, which tells about the construction of socialism in the Ukrainian SSR. This is the first film shot by Vertov in Ukraine. The eleventh year of the Soviet government was a period of industrialization, the construction of the Dnipro HPP and other industrial giants. The director decided to do without "round dates" in order to avoid unnecessary noise and official celebrations. The camera focuses only on the main thing - on the work, the tireless construction of a new socialist reality in the Ukrainian SSR. On February 28, 1928, Dziga Vertov said that "The Eleventh" was written by a video camera without the intervention of a script, and that the camera replaced the writer's pen. This allowed the director to claim that he had invented a pure cinematic language (at the same time deeply socialist), in which the camera directly captures the very matter of life. Contemporary musical accompaniment to the film is performed live by Anton Baibakov (electronics) and Sofia Turta (keyboards). The musical accompaniment to the film was created by the Ukrainian composer Anton Baibakov on the order of the Docudays UA International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival as part of the series project of musical film performances "Dzyga's Circle". "Eleventh" was restored on the basis of the Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Center at the end of 2012.
