Charlotte Andergast, a world-renowned virtuoso pianist, loses a loved one. She spent many years with Leonardo, and his death stuns Charlotte, making her feel confused and lonely. Her daughter Eva, who married a priest a few years ago and moved with him to a small Norwegian town, asks her mother to come to her. For several days, the two women experience a difficult confrontation. They pull and at the same time repel each other. And yet, this meeting is extremely important for both of them.
