Fred Madison is accused of murdering his wife Renee and sentenced to the maximum penalty. Shortly before the execution of the sentence, he mysteriously disappears from the death row, and in his place they find a confused and clueless Pete Dayton (Balthazar Getty, "White Storm"). How did he end up in the cell? Where did the killer go? Released, Pete tries to return to everyday normal life, but instead he is faced with an inexplicable nightmare that amazes the imagination...
